NY Times: The Secret Sadness of Pregnancy With Depression – NYTimes.com

In this NY Times article about maternal depression, the author cites psychoanalyst Rozsika Parker’s thoughtful perspective of  the new mother being able to acknowledge the ambivalent feelings of motherhood is an important part of motherhood. I would go a step further and say it’s a key component in preventing depression in new motherhood. Acknowledging these ambivalent feelings and being able to talk about them with those in your support system are critical during such a huge life change.
